Why I don't mark or highlight in my Bible

When I was a young Jesus Freak (in the 1970's) I used to see fellow Christians marking up their Bibles assiduously during sermons or teaching.  I tried that, too, but found it made the Bible unreadable for me,  My attention was drawn to the markings and not the text.

For the last so many years I have stopped marking in my Bible in any way at all except light pencil marks that are erasable to show the beginning and ending of passages that I have copied.  Now I keep everything of interest in a notebook and I copy the passages I want to learn.

Before the 1500s, all copies of scripture we manuscript: hand written.  I am in the process of making my own manuscript of the Bible, and I have learned that it is a very slow process.  The manuscripts, being all hand produced and sometimes beautifully decorated, were extremely costly to produce and very expensive to buy. It would be unthinkable to mark them up.

As Bibles are relatively inexpensive now, if you want to mark yours up, go right ahead, but I am treating mine with care so that it will last.  I read (and copy) the Bible for at least two hours a day, and I am going very slowly, and only touch the text with a pointer rather than my fingers in order to keep the pages clean. But I have pages and pages of notes and copies of the text to aid me in my studies.

Potaphar's wife

Who in our Congress will stand up and protect our sons and grandsons from false and malicious accusations of sexual misconduct?  We used to have due process, but there have been some women, from the beginning of time, who have falsely accused men and boys, and now they are supposed to be believed without any evidence or the right of the accused to confront the accuser?

The Government's War on Children

Now that I am a grandfather I am more concerned than ever about the war on children that our government is waging.  We are now 21 trillion dollars in debt, not including unfunded liabilities.

21 trillion dollars debt.  $21,000,000,000,000.00.  That's $135,000 per person between the age of 18 and 65.   That's $175,000 per person working today.

The only way to get that money is for the government to force our children and grandchildren to pay, either by higher taxes, inflation, or default, which will ruin their lives.

Are you proud of the way you and your government are treating our children?

The second worst decision in Supreme Court History

In 1857 the US Supreme Court made the second worst civil rights decision in their history, and the first decision that directly contradicted arguments made by Christians based on their biblical beliefs.

Many people believe that Christian theology promoted slavery, but in fact that is one of the many lies perpetrated by slave owners in the South.  In fact, for hundreds of years Christians had struggled against slavery, and the Southern states of the US was one of the few places that had a Judeo-Christian history, but still supported slavery.

Dred Scott was a slave who had been relocated to a free state.  After attempting unsuccessfully to purchase freedom for himself and his family, he, with the help of Christian abolitionists and the son of his previous owner, sued for his freedom.

The fact that he was in a free state made it clear that he was protected by Mosaic Law from being returned to slavery.

The 15th and 16th verse of Deuteronomy reads:

Thou shalt not deliver unto his master the servant which is escaped from his master unto thee:   He shall dwell with thee, even among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt not oppress him."

The Supreme court, being loaded with Democrat party appointees, and under pressure from Democrat President James Buchanan, began the precedent of ignoring morality and decency in its decisions, but rather favoring the powerful political interests of moneyed politics. This Supreme Court decision was one of the key factors leading to the outlawing of a major activity of Christian abolitionists, who went underground, in civil disobedience of the law of the land.  We were forced to struggle for freedom and our Christian beliefs against a corrupt government intent on oppression and the denial of human rights.

I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked.

We have not just won a football game.  We are relieved that Bin Laden is gone, but we do not cheer the death of anyone.  Osama was a bad man and seems to have died unrepentant.

"As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways..."

Since when is anti-abortion "Conservative"

If "conservative" is the preservation of the status quo, being pro-life is a radical departure.  In the old days there were "Radical Republicans" who were strongly opposed to slavery.  Since pro-life is not part of either the Republican or Democrat party's political DNA, we should not confuse pro-life with conservatism, which really means right rather than left on the political spectrum.

Take, for example, how the "Pro-choice" argument is framed compared to how it is actually implemented.  Chants of "keep your rosaries off my ovaries" frame pro-choice as a freedom of religion matter.  In fact, what the white women who promote "pro-choice" are actually doing is demanding government support of abortion clinics in African American neighborhoods to enforce genocide against the African Americans in the U.S.  Since 1921 when the ABCL (the parent of Planned Parenthood) was founded, the Sangerites have worked to eliminate African Americans, especially African American men, from the population, and enslaving African American women as sexless, non-reproductive servants to their cause.  "Pro-life" has resulted in the re-enslavement of Black America.

Opposition to the pro-choice abortionists is a radical, not a conservative stand to take.  It is based in the fundamental belief in the equality of humanity and the right of human kind to life--which is NOT the status quo in today's America.
